What you can see and do
Wildlife pondsThis is one of the two of the smaller ponds created at the Pocket Park with funding from Grantscape. The ponds are seasonal and dry out in hot weather.
As the ponds can and do dry out, they are not suitable for fish. However they encourage insects which are a food source for birds. |
Limestone pilesYou will see piles of limestone with the Pocket Park. They provide a habitat. This one is located here the ponds.
The shady rock piles under trees might be home to Woodlice, Worms, Snails, Spiders,Centipedes, Millipedes, Earwigs, Frogs, Toads and even Hedgehogs. The sunnier rock piles might be home to, all the creatures already mentioned, plus Lizards and Slow worms which need a warmer, sunnier areas of rock to bask as well as small rodents or even solitary Bumble Bees which might nest in the warm crevices between the stones. |
Community OrchardIn the past couple of years fruit trees have been planted near the site of the allotments to create a community orchard. The trees selected are species local to Northamptonshire and nearby counties.
Local fund raising at village events has enabled us to purchase the trees. |
What you can do
Local people have been involved with the Pocket Park from the beginning from designing and creating, to raising funds. They cut the path ways, manage the wildflower meadow, plant tree whips to develop into hedges, create habitats and most of all enjoy the pocket park.

There is a purpose built BBQ area near a seating area, ideal for family picnics.
You will find logs to sit an and watch the birds fly by. Or have a family story time using the toadstool circle next to the wildflower meadow. A number of the benches have decorative carvings - can you spot them? |
